Outdoor Succulent Container
An Unique, Low-Maintenance Planter for a Hot and Sunny Spot
If you have a hot, sunny spot next to a driveway or walkway, and are in need of a low-maintenance pop of color, this succulent container is the perfect solution. Succulents of different heights, leaf shapes, colors and textures weave together to create dynamic, eye-catching drama. Say goodbye to the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary with this easy-care, water-wise arrangement.
Choose a concrete or faux-concrete container with a large drainage hole, and fill it with fast-draining potting soil (a potting mix made specifically for succulents and cacti works well). Add a selection of succulents, of varying heights, textures and colors. Pop in a flowering annual or perennial, to soften up the arrangement and provide color contrast (keep reading for the planter recipe, as pictured).
While succulents are low-maintenance and drought tolerant, this container still needs regular monitoring of the soil to keep it looking its best. Rainfall may not provide sufficient water for these plants - when the top of the soil feels dry and dusty, it’s time to water.
Not all succulents are suited for hot, sunny conditions, especially haworthia, gasteria, lithops, and euphorbia.
